Winter Weather Driving Tips

Posted: December 28, 2018

It’s that time of year where road conditions can be hazardous due to the winter weather. Many companies have large fleets with hundreds even thousands of drivers on the road and a lot of us will be traveling for the holidays.

Here are three topics to focus on for driving in winter weather.

Number one, your vehicle.

  • Make sure your vehicle is road worthy.
  • Check your tire pressure often.
  • Make sure your windshield wipers work well.
  • Verify that all the lights and blinkers on the vehicle are operational and ensure that your spare tire and tools are ready if you need them.

It’s also a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car.

Number two, your route.

Plan ahead and really know the path you’ll be taking if you’re forced to drive in bad weather.

  • Does the route have and steep hills to contend with,
  • could any of the roads be flooded or
  • any bridged be iced over?

By studying your route you might discover a safer way to go.

And Number three is YOU.

Remember you’re in control of how you drive.

  • Control your emotions and drive defensively.
  • Make sure not to drive if you’re too fatigued and
  • never drive under the influence.
